Gredos Mountains

I spent the last weekend up in the Gredos mountains – fantastic scenery and only couple of hours drive from Madrid. On Saturday we walked from Navalperal de Torres to the Elola Refugio via Cinco Lagunas (approx 9 hours, including time for swim in the lakes), stayed overnight at Elola. On Sunday morning we went up Almonzor and back to the refugio (about 5 1/2 hours), had lunch then back to up to Navalperal (another 6 hours including break for swim in the river).

Hoping to get back there again soon!

Night walk in Sierra Guadarrama

At the weekend we went up to the Sierra Guadarrama mountains just outside Madrid for an overnight walk, about 18km staring at 1:30am on Sunday morning and finishing for breakfast at around 8am.

With some very long exposure times (30 seconds+) I managed to get a few reasonable photos…

Spain 1 – Colombia 0

Colombian supporters Last night we went to watch Spain play Colombia at the Bernabeu. Quite different atmosphere to the rugby match we saw at the weekend. Seems there were as many (if not more) Colombian supporters than Spanish. The game itself was fairly dull, until around the last 10 minutes.

Rollercoaster ride…

This weekend I went out to one of the theme parks on the edge of Madrid, I’ve not been on a rollercoaster for years and although it was very cold it was very quiet, so we could get on the rides with almost no queue – in fact, we had to wait for enough people to come for the ride to start. Abismo, the biggest and fastest ride there, was shut with technical problems for most of the day, but was fixed up just as we were about to leave, so we managed to get on the last run of the day. We did manage to get home with all our body parts ( photo taken on the Tarantula ride).

Video of Abismo (not one that I took, though I was sat at the front, so this was the view I got…):

Photos from Toledo

Yesterday, Araya, Selamawit, Tsegay and I had a day trip out to Toledo, so here are the photos:

I’m also testing a out a WordPress Flickr plugin for displaying my photos (Flickr Gallery), rather than having them all uploaded directly into my blog. Seems to be working well.
